Conwy
Just a short drive from Llandudno is the beautiful walled town of Conwy. If you enjoy history, this is one place you really should not miss.
Conwy Castle is one of the most impressive mediaeval castles in Wales, with its dramatic towers overlooking the harbour. Walking along the ancient town walls gives you wonderful views across the rooftops and out towards the sea.
The town itself is full of character, with independent shops, traditional pubs and cosy cafes. It is also home to the famous Smallest House in Great Britain, which is a fun little stop while exploring the harbour area.
It is the kind of place where you can easily spend a relaxed afternoon wandering around.
A Day Trip to Anglesey
Anglesey is one of our favourite places to recommend for a day trip from Llandudno. The island is known for its beautiful coastline, sand beaches and relaxed atmosphere, making it a wonderful place to explore.
One of the most popular places to visit is Beaumaris, a charming seaside town with a stunning castle and lovely views across the Menai Strait. The waterfront is a great place to stroll, with cafes and ice cream shops along the way.
Another must see is South Stack Lighthouse, located on the western side of the island near Holyhead. The lighthouse sits dramatically on a small island connected by steps carved into the cliffslide, and the views from the area are absolutely breathtaking.
Snowdonia National Park
One of the biggest advantages of staying in Llandudno is how close you are to Snowdonia National Park.
Within a relatively short drive you can be surrounded by mountains, lakes and some of the most stunning landscapes in Wales. Many guests enjoy visiting the charming village of Betws y Coed, which is often described as the gateway to Snowdonia.
Here you will find beautiful riverside walks, traditional shops and plenty of places to stop for lunch or a coffee before continuing your journey through the mountains.
Bodnant Garden
If you prefer a slower paced day out, Bodnant Garden in the Conwy Valley is always a lovely place to visit.
These famous National Trust gardens are beautifully designed and change with the seasons, so there is always something different to see. In late spring the Laburnum Arch becomes one of the most photographed garden features in Wales, with its bright yellow flowers creating a stunning walkway.
It is a peaceful place to wander and enjoy nature, especially if the weather is nice.
Welsh Mountain Zoo
For guests visiting with family, the Welsh Mountain Zoo in nearby Colwyn Bay is a popular choice.
The zoo is set on a hillside overlooking the sea and is home to a wide range of animals including big cats, bears and exotic birds. It is a great day out for children, and the views from the zoo across the coastline are impressive as well.
Portmeirion Village
If you are happy to travel a little further for a day trip, Portmeirion is one of the most unique places you can visit in North Wales.
This colourful village was designed to look like an Italian coastal town, with bright buildings, beautiful gardens and stunning views across the estuary. Walking around the village almost feels like stepping into another country.
It is a very special place and well worth adding to your itinerary if you have time during your stay.
